Michael Csernik of Jacksonville, FL was struck at the intersection of South Silver Road/Route 147 and Inglenook Road just north of US 322 in Reed Township, as detailed in a release by investigating trooper Mark Zearfaus with PSP Troop H - Newport.
He died in an "accidentally struck by an EMS unit," the Dauphin County Coroner's office explained. The call to the fatal crash came into 911 system at 5:17 a.m.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:21 a.m. on March 14, according to Zearfaus.
The autopsy was performed the same day as the cause. It determined the cause of death to be multiple traumatic injuries, and the manner of death was ruled accidental.
Although PSP said he is from Florida, the coroner's office believes he was experiencing homelessness at the time of his passing.
"Thus far, the Coroner’s Office’s efforts to locate next-of-kin who are living have been unsuccessful. The PA State Police are working on this search for next-of-kin as well," Dauphin County Press Secretary Diane McNaughton stated in the release.
"Both his parents are deceased," McNaughton stated in an updated release the week after he passed, adding that "County and State Police officials hope that the release of his name may generate leads to family members or someone who may know him."
